i have finished the borders for the mirror frame. also, in one corner, i have glued the pattern that will repeat.
when i saw the 2nd photo, which is a detail shot of the corner, i was surprised to see that the center silver square was so 'not square,' but looked more like a rectagle. how could i have missed this? of course, it is impossible to always be aware of every piece, and if i were halfway through the project, i would not be so surprised. but this is basically my test pattern, and i was paying attention. as it turns out, it is a bit of an illusion... a combination of the camera angle, the lighting, and the glass... it really is pretty square. even though my shots look like they are straight on, sometimes i take advantage of better lighting at a bit of an angle. Photoshop has a great feature which allows me to adjust the perspective and magically straighten out a shot. this is very effective and convenient for taking pictures of mosaics.
next, i will mark on the base the measurements for the repeating pattern. my next post will go over this process. then, i will do some cutting, a lot of cutting, and get started gluing.
stay tuned...
