tool update... a nod to the glass snapper

cutting 8 triangles from the 1/2" bronze van gogh tiles is a bit of a drag... and i need literally hundreds of them. some of the van gogh is very thick, which makes it difficult to break, and i often do not get clean corners. this also happens on the 3/4" tiles, but not as much. additionally, the 1/2" is more challenging to score accurately, which contributes to the challenge in breaking.

i was cutting some more this morning, and out of a bit of frustration at how difficult it was to get clean cuts... meaning straight through... this pattern is so tight for these triangles that i really need the cuts to be clean... i decided to try the glass snapper again. previously, i learned that it can cut very cleanly, especially if you can line up the score directly under the center point of the head of the tool.

i first broke the tile into 2 triangles with my modified tool, as the snapper seems to have trouble breaking from the corner. then, instead of putting the triange half-tile into the tool corner first... which is the best way with my modified tile plier... i inserted it flat side first, and then did my best to line up the score under the center point... a bit difficult with such small pieces, and sometimes i can't see the score.

i was much happier with the cleanliness of the cuts with the glass snapper... although i still needed to clean up just as many corners... but overall, the pieces were better. i think that this snapper tool is very useful in conjunction with the modified tool. you just need to try them both and find out what works best for you. the snapper will not work on the very smallest pieces, though, and i don't know how long it will hold up to such repeated use... i keep seeing minute pieces of the tool coming off on the tiles every once in awhile.
