• rhythms, february

i just finished my second piece in the rhythms series. i am happier with this one than i am with the first one for january. i am getting more into the spirit of the series, and learning more about the technique and how to improve it. so, i guess i am grateful for having to do two do-overs to come up with this third attempt.

what do you think... does it feel like february to you?

  • marking designs on a vase

A few weeks ago, in response to an inquiry over my website, I sent an email trying to explain how I transfer a design to a 3D object, specifically a vase. The following is copied from that email, with a few quick clarifications added, and is a general explanation only. Maybe there is a tip or two that could be helpful to someone. I reference my vase titled Skin Deep, which you can see by clicking the thumbnail.

i have started a new series which i am calling rhythms. i will make one piece for each month, inspired by the natural environmental rhythms happening around me at the time. this one is for january.

  • jelly of the sea

i just finished up this little fun jellyfish! my 16 year-old son came up with the name... kind of a play on the chicken of the sea tuna label.

i just wanted to play a bit... i had this beautiful pyrite sun... which i bought from mosaic rocks! that i wanted to do something with. i used acid green, violet, copper, and gold 24kt mosaic gold to try to pull out some of the shimmery colors of the pyrite sun, and used smalti that i had on hand. the wedi board base was just a scrap that i had.

the background was freely done without drawing first... i wanted to play with the different shades of blue and aqua in a wavy pattern.
