this piece is a prototype for a series that explores a multi-dimensional effect through a layering process. by placing planes at varying heights and overlapping them, i am trying to achieve an effect of floating planes.

on this piece, the vertical planes on the left and right are slightly raised above the smalti backgroud, and the center plane is above them.

the process of elevating the planes was quite awkward, and i learned how not to do it. on the next one i will try a different way that will hopefully go much more smoothly.
